• Not again…

I am almost embarrassed to say I did another scene in The Help. It is like a bad relationship. TH slaps me around and I keep going back for more. For example…

Wow. Those are awesome. You want a pair, don’t you? Whatever. You don’t have to be so mean.

The author of the book, Kathryn Stockett, was also an extra in the scene. I got bumped from the hair chair so she could have hers done. I mean really? The nerve of some people. You’d think she was the reason we were all there or something.

The scene was a Jackson Junior League meeting and it lasted most of the day. During lunch (at 3 p.m.), they pulled me and my bud Katie for an additional scene. We had to change costumes and haul it back to the set. I didn’t even get to finish my pie. When we got to the JLJ “headquarters,” they sent us upstairs and told us to wait. All dressed up with no place to go. About three hours in, it was apparent they were not coming for us. That’s right… TH stood me up. Most likely for another girl. Or two. They probably had better hair and were not wearing horn-rimmed librarian glasses. TH is such a womanizer.

If TH calls and wants me back, I am not going to answer. But, I might listen to the voicemail, and maybe text ’em if I’m drunk. But that is it. We are so done.

  • Wanna know a secret?

Do you wash your hair every day? You do, don’t you? You think you HAVE to, right? Well guess what… you don’t. I only wash mine a few times a week. It is better for your hair and seriously, who has time to wash hair everyday? You will, however, need some product intervention. Dry shampoo is the answer. There are tons of pricey options on the market. Oscar Blandi, Bumble and Bumble, Ojon, Bedhead… tons. I tried most of them and was not impressed. A few years ago, my super in-the-know friend, Candace, told me about Psssssst. It has been around since the 70’s and is available at Walgreens and Walmart for $5.99. Did I mention it received an Allure Editor’s Choice Award for 2010?

Not only does it allow you to skip a day, it adds volume and makes your hair pretty much awesome. Just lift sections of your hair and spray at your roots. Make sure you hold the can 6-8 inches away from your hair. Don’t be shy. Really… go nuts. You can’t use too much. I promise if you try it, you will like it. And, your hair will look better. So… what are you waiting for?

**Note** Psssssst is really better for light hair because it leaves a white residue. If you are a brunette, use it lightly or go with this one.

  • Five Years til Paris…

This is Kailey. She is my niece. She turned thirteen today. Isn’t she a doll?

When she was born, I was a junior in college. My sister did not want to leave her with just anybody so I moved home. I went to class on Tuesdays and Thursdays and kept her on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Did I mention I was taking 18 hours? Or that I was 20? I’m not sure who cried more on our first day alone together. It was an interesting year. She helped me study. I taught her to dance. We watched A LOT of MTV. I hope I didn’t scar her.

She taught me a lot that year. Like that kids are a ton of work. But also that they are precious and melt your heart. She was the cutest, sweetest baby. She loved me but I loved her more. Her first word was Wowie. She gave me a nickname. We were tight like that. Still are.

My kids love her. She is one in a million. So sweet and super smart. I went to Paris when she was very small and she was upset she didn’t get to go. I promised I would take her when she turned 18. It seemed such a long time away. I sort of thought she would forget. She hasn’t. I’d better start saving my Skymiles.

Happy birthday, Kailey. Thank you for being who you are. I am so proud of you!
