My first baby turned seven today. SEVEN. I know you are all tired of my essays on how time goes by too fast. But, it is true.

    He was born.

    I blinked my eyes.

    He is seven.

And I’m going to blink my eyes again, and he will be fourteen. FOURTEEN. Hopefully, he will be as sweet and lovable as he is now. If he isn’t, I’m sure time will slow down drastically.

Seven things I hope we both remember…

You love to tell jokes. Your favorite is to say, “What’s under there?” To which I respond, “Under where?”…
    “Mom, YOU SAID UNDERWEAR!”

You have all your baby teeth. See. Told you you’re still my baby.

Sometimes you ask for 100 kisses at bedtime, and then burst into a fit of giggles when I try to give them to you. Then you ask me to sing the funeral song before you go to sleep.

At seven, your career goal is to be the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints and play in the SuperDOAN.

You always ask your daddy to tell you stories about when he was a little boy. And, you ask us to tell you about when you were a baby.

Graham calls you Wellsy. I think it is the cutest and hope neither of you decide you are too cool for it later. You are a great big brother.

You have a huge imagination, and never met a steak or a book fair you didn’t like.

    Happy Birthday, Wells.

“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.”

p.s. I hope we both forget that I scheduled your dermatologist appointment on your birthday. And, that while checking in I asked the receptionist, “What kind of mother schedules her child’s first GYNECOLOGIST visit on his birthday?”

    Yes. Let’s forget about that.

  • fly like a red bird, sting like a bee

When Wells was in K3, he was a bumble bee in the Spring play. He was also taller than the other bees and looked like he was wearing high waters. During the performance, one of the kids on the row behind him kept hitting him in the head with his handbell. Over and over (and most likely not on purpose). Toward the end of the program, my little bee just couldn’t take it anymore. He turned around and smacked the kid. The entire audience gasped, and I just about died.

After the play, you could tell he felt really bad about it.

Today is Graham’s K3 play. Time flies.

    So do birds.

Can you tell how thrilled he is?

Please say a prayer that he is on the back row.

And that no one is injured.

It’s been a while, so how about a Friday Four?

    Contain yourself.

    #1 It’s All Good

    IMG_8588

Gwynnie released a new cookbook last week. It focuses on clean eating so there are zero recipes with red meat. It includes meal plans in the back for different weeks… detox, family-friendly (my family would not be friendly if I fed them some of the suggestions), vegan, etc. There are lots of recipes that look delicious and easy. So far, the only thing I’ve made is the Go-To Black Beans. They were great, but it is hard to mess up a can of black beans. Verdict is still out. I will try more recipes and let you know.

    #2 Caprese Salad

It’s time to plant tomatoes. This dish is the only reason I bother to do so. Seriously, I didn’t even like tomatoes before I had them with cheese and basil. So easy, so good… so vegetarian. Maybe Gwynnie will ask me to contribute to her next cookbook.

Slice tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and layer them on a platter. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and add salt and pepper. Add fresh basil to the top. Also great drizzled with a little balsamic glaze. YUM!

    #3 Wide Leg Pants

    IMG_8911

I posted this pic on Instagram and my caption led several to believe that I was wearing pajama pants. (Probably because I said, “Hey look, I’m wearing PJs as pants”.) To clarify, they are legit pants that feel like pajamas. Cute + Comfy = I need ten pairs. They are on sale at Anthro. I prefer them with flats so they don’t look like “the flood is a coming”.

I also have these from Piperlime. I love them but they are super thin. Perfect for the beach and also on sale. Get you some.

(Yes, I spend a LOT of time in that chair looking at books and magazines. And drinking wine. Those are my only hobbies.)

#4 Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil – Baroque

    IMG_9018

Oh, and hoarding products. This is my new favorite gloss. It is the perfect shade of pink for spring. It doesn’t dry out your lips or taste weird. The only drawback is that it’s a pain to sharpen. Oh, and that it costs $25. I am going to be baroque if I don’t stay out of Sephora.

Speaking of, Sephora is having their annual 15% off sale. The online code is CHICWEEK. Let me know if you have any favorite products I need to try.

I hope you have a great weekend!
