• friday five {sephora edition}

Sephora is having its semiannual VIB 20% off promotion now through Monday (Use code VIBTOPIA). It is a great time to stock up on your favorite products. Plus, Ebates has 4% cash back on Sephora purchases today. And all the product ho’s said amen.

Here are my top five Sephora favorites… (It was really hard to narrow it down to five).

    1. Sultra Bombshell Curling Wand

    sultra-bombshell-curling-iron

I have mentioned this jewel before. This is the best thing that has happened to hair since the discontinuation of Dippity Do. I know it is expensive but it is worth every penny. The curls last for days and it is super easy to use. Get you one while it’s 20% off.

    2. Clarins Liquid Bronze

    s827824-main-hero

I am so pale that I look translucent. Not a good look. This face tanner works wonders. A little goes a long way and the bottle lasts forever.

    3. Stila Eyeshadow in Kitten

    images-1

This is my all time favorite eye shadow. I wear it everyday and have for years. Sort of a goldie beige… looks great on everyone. Even gals with translucent eyelids.

    4. Bvlgari White Tea

    images-4

Perfume never goes on sale. Except at Sephora twice a year. Love this scent… it is light and does not give me (or those around me) a headache. Unlike my constant jabbering about Ebates and curling wands.

    5. Fresh Seaberry Face Oil

I love Josie Maran argan oil but I decided to try this face oil from Fresh. It is a great nighttime moisturizer and perfect for dry winter skin. And don’t forget Fresh Sugar lip treatment… or do because it is addictive.

Please share your favorite Sephora buys in the comments section. As if the product situation over here isn’t bad enough already.

  • rain, rain let’s try this a-gain

The week leading up to Halloween was all kinds of busy. We got boo’d by some of our sweet neighbors…

    IMG_2204

You mustache yourself if your boo basket contained something this cool…

    IMG_2222

You also mustache yourself if you can pull one off from the church carnival face paint booth…

    IMG_2436

Please note Wells’ Most Interesting Man in the World face.

I guess the mustache jarred his memory because as soon as we got home, Wells reminded me that we had yet to pay our Boo forward. And that it is bad luck if you don’t. And that it was the last night to make it happen.

So I did what any mother who worked 8 hours then took two children to a church carnival with bouncy houses and 4,000 other kids (while her husband was out of town) and finally got home and changed into pj pants would do…

    IMG_2473

I gathered up stuff from around our house to keep the bad juju away. If you recognize anything you have gifted me in the bucket, please do not be offended. I had to part with things that I wouldn’t have under ordinary circumstances. Like juice boxes, gum and beer. Yep. I put beer in a boo bucket. (Insert redneck joke here.) In my defense, it was fancy pecan beer. (Sorry SK, but that is what you get for being out of town while I was left to deal with the bad luck boo crisis of 2013.)

The next day was Halloween and it poured all. day. long. The rain finally let up at trick or treat time, but it was a muddy mess. Our neighborhood postponed trick or treating until the following night (because why not?). So, we stayed home, made candy bags and had some friends over. And I made spaghetti. And the boys requested “mo-hawgs.”

Spaghetti and faux hawks on Halloween? It was really bizarre. And also very entertaining.

We got a BOOover the next day. I was extremely thankful we didn’t trick or treat in the rain since my children chose all white costumes this year. I seriously had flashbacks to my wedding.

Plus, the costumes were super thin. I’m talking awkward, wet t-shirt contest material. And everyone knows how I feel about inappropriate children’s costumes…

    IMG_2480

Yes, little Wowie is wearing fishnet stockings. Forget leggings… Tutus are not pants.

    Meow.

My friend Christy had a lot of folks (pretty much the entire neighborhood) over before trick or treating. I made cupcakes for the party…

    IMG_2538

Cute, eh? Except Wells stepped on the plastic container they were in on the drive over. I tried to pass them off as “scary,” but I don’t think it worked.

Another nice family organized a hayride, and every ninja and princess this side of the Mississippi showed up for it. I don’t have a good relationship with hayrides. They make me extremely nervous. I walked around stressing out loud about the “hayride of death” to anyone who would listen. If I were the meds type, they would need to be upped on Halloween. When the hayride stopped, the kids all piled off and ran full speed to every house in sight. I am sure the neighbors felt as if they were being looted.

Thankfully, all the children survived. I don’t think the neighbors’ candy fared so well.

    IMG_0711

You know what is scarier than hayrides? Falling off garbage cans while trying to sneak candy…

    IMG_2196

    And diabetes.

  • friday four

Two posts in two days? Slap me silly, and call me Sally. It must be all the extra time I have since I’ve stopped complaining about how hot it is.

    Hallelujah.

    1. Leopard Coat

Since the cooler weather is here (and hopefully to stay), I tried on my Asos leopard coat I ordered a while back.

I was going to send it back because it made me feel like a trapper. Then I posted it on Instagram and made a joke about the little blond one I had already caught behind me…

    IMG_1168

And then everybody said it was cute, and I decided to keep it. Behold the power of social media.

    2. Sam Edelman Louie Fringe Booties

Plus, the coat goes perfectly with these booties I got during the Shopbop friends and family sale. I don’t feel right saying booties. While we are at it, let’s come up with a new name for friends and family sales. As far as I can tell, if you have internet access, you qualify as both. Last time I checked, Saks doesn’t text me about her problems or let me borrow shoes. How about “casual acquaintance that requested to connect on LinkedIn sale” or something like that.

    sam-edelman-louie-boot

Back to the booties… they rock my socks. I wore them twice this week because they are so comfortable. Plus, my fashionable friend Melissa from work told me they are on the list of top 19 ankle boots for fall. Between that and the coat, I feel sort of cool. But mostly like a pimp.

    3. White Pumpkins and Mums

    IMG_0981

For the past few years I have gone with gray/blue and white pumpkins mixed in with faded orange. This year, I stuck with all white (mums and pumpkins) outside and gray/blue and white inside. I am sort of digging it.

    IMG_1519

Added this planter from Lowe’s + a white mum between the garage doors…

    IMG_1699

    4. Franken Berry

Pumpkins and mums can only mean one thing. It’s Franken Berry season, baby. It might be my favorite cereal ever.

    IMG_1508

I once had a boyfriend who brought it to me… like flowers or candy. The way to most girl’s hearts is diamonds. This girl prefers sugar cereal ladened with food dyes and artificial flavors.

Yum. Stock up now. It won’t be around for long.

5 on Friday Logo - Final

Speaking of long, it has been quite a while since I’ve linked up with precious April for a Five on Friday. If you click over to her blog you will see her Friday five plus links to hundreds of other posts. Check it out… especially if you have a lot of extra time on your hands now that you don’t have to complain about how hot it is outside.

    5. Eleanor and Park

Y’all. I don’t even know what to say. The downtown lady lawyer book club read this over the summer. I didn’t get around to it, but it got rave reviews. I mentioned it to my neighbor Kara and she read it. And loved it. Then I mentioned it to my neighbor Missy who read it. And LOVED it. I finally read it this week and finished it in two days. I don’t want y’all to think that I get to sit around reading in my jammies all day… I read it at night after the boys were in bed when I should have been sleeping.

    IMG_2195

It is that good, and I have the bags to prove it. I really hope that the author is working on a sequel. And that Dreamworks is planning on shooting the screenplay in Mississippi so I can sign on as an extra.

Pretty unlikely since the story is set in Nebraska. But it is also set in the 1980s, and I have a feeling we could provide plenty of big hair and booties.

Not big booties. Big hair. And booties.

I really don’t feel right saying booties.
