5 on Friday Logo - Final

Another Friday, another five. Solid gold edition. Let’s go…

    1. Anthopologie Luminous Dot Pillow

    Anthropologie_Luminous_Dots_Pillow

I have nothing to say about this pillow. Except that I want it.

    2. Target Gold Stemless Glasses

    IMG_3439

Picked up these jewels at Target. Bonus points – plastic. They don’t shatter when you hurl them at people who decorate for Christmas in October. “But Wowie! If we decorate early we can enjoy it for an entire quarter.” If ifs and buts were candies and nuts, then every day would be Christmas. But that is not the case, so deflate that giant Santa.

Double bonus – dishwasher safe. No need to hand wash after you inevitably miss and it lands in the gutter. You were cut from the softball team… don’t act surprised.

    Gresham Jewelry

In case you haven’t heard (you have), tassels are hogging the spotlight right now. I picked up this leather tassel bracelet with gold accents from Gresham at Mistletoe Marketplace, and I love it. I also dig the long tassel necklaces.

    Josie Maran Hair Serum

    s1549013-main-Lhero

I got this hair oil during the Sephora sale. It has a gold tone that makes hair super shiny (not glittery) and smells like lavender. I need to shimmer down because at the rate I’m going, it will be gone next week.

    5. And the gold star goes to…

My niece Kailey. Her ACT score came in this week. She made a thirty (30!)…in tenth grade. She is the youngest person in her school’s history to score that high. We always sort of suspected she was bright.

Congrats Kailey! So, so proud of you.

I will close with words of wisdom I picked up during my brief stint as a Brownie (which seems long compared to my softball career):

“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.”

But, the gold one looks better with your outfit.

  • soup (soup ba-doop, soup ba-doop)

Here I go, here I go, here I go again. This time it’s chicken chili. Super easy and oh so delicious.

    Let’s start with the ingredients:

    IMG_0743

As you can see, I need a new assistant. Sometimes he flat out refuses to help.

    IMG_0747

And the rest of the time, he is just goofing around. I would replace him, but he works for free.

    IMG_0742

(Not pictured- A rotisserie chicken or 4 cooked chicken breasts.)

Start by sauteing one yellow onion in two tablespoons of olive oil over medium low heat. Cook the onion until it is translucent, and then add a tablespoon of minced garlic. I only cook the garlic for a minute or two. Make sure to stir continuously because garlic burns easily, and burned garlic easily ruins chicken chili. Next, add 2 teaspoons each of chili powder and cumin. Also, add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. (I used more like a teaspoon, but I like it hot.) (That’s what she said.)

    IMG_0751

Stir the spices around for a minute or two, and then add a 4 ounce can of diced green chilis. Next, add a container of chicken stock or broth. And a little salt ‘n’ pepa.

    IMG_0756

Rinse two cans of cannellini beans under cold water. Mash about half of the beans and then add all of them to the soup. Bring it to a boil, and then simmer it on low for at least thirty minutes. Taste it at this point to see if you need more spices.

About five minutes before you are ready to serve, stir in the cooked chicken and a big handful of chopped cilantro leaves.

Garnish with sliced avocado, cheese, cilantro and sour cream.

Try it. It will make you wanna scream oooo, oooo, oooo.

    Soup.

  • give thanks(giving a chance)

The following is a public service announcement brought to you by The Wowie:

    It is not December.

I repeat, it is NOT December.

So can someone please tell me why people have Christmas trees up already? Has this been happening for years but people were too embarrassed to admit it? Is it Instagram’s fault? Someone posted their floor to ceiling Christmas decorations on November 1st and then everyone else thought it was okay to come out of the Christmas closet? It sort of makes me want to deck myself in the halls.

I’ve mentioned my, ahem, distaste for fast Christmas here before. I know that people can put up their tree whenever they please. Heck, some people keep their outdoor lights up year round. I just don’t understand it.

I love Christmas, I really do. But I also love Thanksgiving and like to savor one holiday before rushing onto the next one. Why would someone want to fast forward fall? Why would anyone want to speed past Thanksgiving? People spend too much money on pumpkins to dump them the day after Halloween to make room for fake trees.

Thanksgiving is a beautiful holiday. Why do people want to dilute it with their eggnog lattes?

And you can’t beat the food. One word – PIE. Just try not to get any on your Christmas sweater.

I am thankful for those of you who agree with me. And to those of you who don’t, let’s just love each other through it.

But if you’ve already brought out the creepy elf, we just can’t be friends.
