It’s Friday! It’s summer! It’s time for a summer Friday five.
1. Rosé Colored Glasses
I picked up this Billette Rosé at World Market on the way home from the beach. I’m no wine expert unless wine experts choose solely on the basis of the bottle. Fortunately, this wine tastes as good as it looks. Unfortunately, it is not sold in Mississippi. Guess I’m just gonna have to go back to the beach and stock up. Boo.
(A great one that is available locally is Broadbent Vinho Verde Rosé. It is much like my beloved Broadbent but in a punchier, pink version.)
2. Easy Pea-sy Pasta
(not pictured, peas)
This is the easiest pasta salad. Cook one package of ditalini according to package directions (make sure your water is nice and salty). Heat three tablespoons of olive oil over medium low heat. Add a tablespoon of chopped garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Sauté for a minute or so and pour into a large pasta bowl. Drain the pasta and toss it with the olive oil. Add one package of diced prosciutto. Next, dump one package of frozen green peas into a strainer and run cold water over them until they defrost (it only takes a couple of minutes). Mix the peas in with the pasta, and then top it with loads of freshly grated parmesan cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste and a little more olive oil if you need it. You can serve it warm or cold, but I like it best at room temp. I call it alliteration salad (pasta, prosciutto, peas, parmesan). It makes a lot, and is a real crowd pea-ser.
3. HomeGoods Is My Homeboy
So, I came across these $19.99 beach towels at HomeGoods. They are thick and huge, and I really like the groovy pattern. (Do people still say groovy? Wells loves to watch Scooby Doo, and they say it. A lot.) Some nice folks at the beach said they liked the towels and asked the brand (Pendleton). After we got home, I tried to find a link for a friend and saw they range from $60-80 EACH online. I hope those beach people don’t think I spent $70 plus shipping on beach towels. The moral of the story is you should shop at HomeGoods.
4. No Hassle Tassel
Last year, I got a wood bead tassel necklace that I loved. And then it broke. And then I got another one. And then it broke. My friend Lesley fixed it, and all was right in the world. Until it broke and hundreds of beads dropped all over the wood floor of our vacation rental. They were camouflaged, and we slipped and slid on them for three days. All that to say, I have a new one, and I love it. I ordered it from my Instagram friend @foxdendesigns. The beads are super heavy (not plastic… bone, I think), and it is so well made. Check out her page… she also makes great tassel bracelets and custom pieces.
Side note. I could never be a fashion “#liketkit” blogger. First off, who takes those photos? I felt like the biggest a-clown when I asked SK to take the one above. Do they have a photographer on staff? I need to know. (Maybe if I like it…) Second, I don’t know what to do with my arms/hands. I looked around for a Starbucks cup, but all I found was an empty juice box. I thought about reaching up and touching my hair, but that made me feel even worse about myself and the situation. I also tried one of those open mouth “just heard the funniest thing ever” laughs, but ended up looking like one big, flared nostril. Third, why is my head so large?
Focus on the necklace. We will get through this.
5. If You Like Piña Coladas
I wanted a piña colada but didn’t have any cream of coconut. I did, however, have a box of Outshine Creamy Coconut bars and some coconut rum. Necessity is the mother of a pretty, ridiculously delicious, perfect for summer invention.
If you have any great, two-ingredient recipes, please share. I’m thinking about writing a two-ingedient cookbook, and I will be sure to credit you. 😉
Be sure to check out all the Five on Friday posts. Have a great weekend!
